So what the heck IS “Manual Therapy” and “Osteopathy”?
Manual Therapy is a term generally used to describe therapeutic bodywork done with the hands, or, manually. Often it is used to treat chronic pains, range-of-motion restrictions, and post-injury rehabilitation. Though sometimes treatments can feel uncomfortable or painful, they are far less invasive to the body than surgery or medicine. This makes it more appealing to those who want more control over their own bodies. It can be used for acute, chronic and preventative care.
Osteopathy focuses on your whole body, including the soft tissues (such as muscles, ligaments and tendons), the spine and nervous system. It also uses hands-on manipulations to loosen, lengthen, stretch, and boost each system of the body. As the structures of the body realign appropriately the whole body is able to operate at its most efficient level - creating pain-free fluid movement and elevating the natural healing ability.
A full treatment plan usually runs between 1-6 sessions. Often people will feel relief after just a session or two, and many people find relief by their 6th treatment. This of course will vary from person to person, as we are all unique individuals and will respond differently to the course of treatment.
Sessions are usually spaced 2-3 weeks apart to allow time for the body to integrate between treatments. This gives an approximate range of care from 1-5 months for 2-6 treatments.
Monthly, quarterly, or biannual visits for preventative and maintenance care are recommended.
