FAQs
What is “Manual Therapy” or “Osteopathic Techniques”?
Manual Therapy means manipulation of the body using your hands, or, manually. This allows for a greater connection and felt sense, which is vital for working with the sensitive structures throughout the body. Osteopathy is defined as “a system of medical practice that emphasizes a holistic and comprehensive approach to patient care” per the Merriam-Webster dictionary. In essence, Osteopathic techniques assess and treat any and every possible structure in the body. It is based on a strong understanding of anatomy, and works to undo blockages or restrictions that are present in the body.
Are you a D.O. (Osteopathic Doctor)?
No. I am Licensed Manual/Massage Therapist (LMT) and have undergone advanced training in osteopathic techniques, craniosacral therapy, and myofascial release. I provide hands-on manipulations but I do not prescribe any medicine.
Is the work painful?
Almost never. All techniques used are done so carefully, cautiously, and appropriately. When a body feels pain there is a defense response which usually means a contracting or tightening of muscles around the area. It is not effective to try and break through the body’s defenses with shear force. Rather, a gentle approach and soft hands allow for accessing even the deepest of structures.
Who would benefit from this treatment?
In essence: everyone. Athletes can find increased strength and movement while decreasing chance of injury. People with chronic pains can finally find relief. Those who feel lethargic can regain vitality. The benefits of this treatment method are vast. The more we can restore function to each structure of the body, the more we increase its innate power to heal and exist.
Can I use my insurance benefits?
Yes! I am currently in-network with the following insurance providers:
Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, PacificSource, Providence, and FirstChoiceHealth
I can bill for either Manual Therapy or Massage Therapy. Sometimes a doctor’s referral is required.
If you don’t see your provider listed but know that you have benefits, a Superbill can be provided to you for potential reimbursement. This means you pay in total up front and your insurance company sends you a check for their coverage.
ALL BENEFITS MUST BE CONFIRMED PRIOR TO YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT!
I’d like to come in for a more traditional massage - can I do that?
I offer massage therapy as well. I strongly believe in the mental health benefits of massage and my treatments aim to provide deep relaxation of the mind and body. Please contact me directly to book.
